Puhkus läbi, täidan Etsy poodi

Pilt annab teada, millega tegelen. Eesmärk on vähemalt sada värsket asja poes ja uskuge, mu varudest leiab enamatki. Kui avastad midagi huvipakkuvat,  küsi meililt sõbrahinda. Sügise alguse puhul on see on ikka palju soodsam...
Vabandust, ei mõista pilti aktiivseks lingisuunajaks muuta... Aga anna andeks ja klõpsa pildi allkirjal :-)

Summer vacation has ended and it´s time now to refresh my Etsy-shop. My target is 100 fresh items in my shop all the time. Believe me, I have this kind of amount in my boxes.
If you like something to buy, ask a discount liina.rees@gmail.com.

Haapsalu sall uue, kohendatud mustriga

 English text below...

Often I find myself embarrassed- one shawl is finished, but there is no extra good pattern to start a new shawl.

This time I resolved situation creatively. I have very good estonian pattern book Pitsilised Koekirjad and there was a pattern which seemed to be  interesting enough. But there was too much open space between the motifs. I wrote an Excel spreadsheet with motifs and cut redundant area. The result was excellent as you can see.

This shawl I made using Traub woollen yarn 2/28 and needles 2.75. I think this yarn is best for Estonian nupps- they all looks same way and beautiful. Yarn I bought from Fibrecrafts.com.

Shawl measures are large, 200X60cm. And edge is sewn on, like the real Haapsalu shawl requires.

This shawl I made for sale, you can find it in my Etsy-shop.  I think this is really majestic and beautiful Christmas present. By the way, there is no shipping costs in December for this shawl!

Why my sqare shawl is not a real Haapsalu Shawl

I´m glad, that some people are so interested about my Haapsalu shawl... And I know- Goolge translator is a funny thing. Estonian is not a easy language and translator does not satisfy the needs of real curious knitter. Greetings to Nordwolke :-))

The question was simple- why is this shawl not a real Haapsalu shawl? The answer is simple too- one of important part is missing. I made this shawl for fun, took a part of pattern, modified it a little  and made it to repeat. I knit only center and edging. The missing part is border.

Usually Haapsalu square shawl has  three pattern- one for center (simple and small), another for border (rich and large) and third for edging. My shawl pattern is big and rich, in original it was a border pattern. Actually I made it as sample, but I loved this pattern and knit it to real big sample :-))  I added edging and... if you please- shawl is ready!

In 2008 I knitted square shawl with three parts. I wear it even today!

About yarn, which I love...

Recently I got some questions about yarns I use.  With my  self-learned English I try to answer (sorry about mistakes).

First- Karin asked me: I have a question about the yarn you are using for the gorgeous shawls. Can you compare the texture of it with anything we could get a hold on in the rest of the world?

I use Ogre yarn, this is 100% wool, 2-ply cobweb yarn. 2/28.Estonian knitters love this yarn specially for knitting traditional Estonian Haapsalu shawls. By rumors out of production, but last week I called Karnaluks-shop and they said  next week arrives new parcel of this yarn. I don´t know, is this really from Ogre-factory but I will buy it for kilogram at least. Last kilo is over soon ;-))
To compare this yarn with something... now I´m a little embarrassed. I don´t know very much of lace yarn around the world, but it is similar to yarn I bought this spring. Traub worsted yarn from Fibrecrafts e-shop. They are quite similar, but Ogre is not so furry (is this a right word about it?). I adore Ogre yarn and plan to knit many shawls from it.

Next- Erika wrote me and asked about two-colored yarn I used on my triangular shawls.

Dear Erika- this is  yarn, which I have dyed myself! I´m very proud of this idea and I made some skeins for sale too. On Hanseatic Days this was my best selling product. Now I have only some skeins in my box, but I can sell them too (if you or someone else want).

Take a look, this is today´s picture about colors I have this moment. From one skein (70-100 grams) you can knit triangular shawl, but why not a rectangle. My best yarn (I think so), october 2009,  looked like a fire. Maybe some day I can make even better...

Haapsalu Shawl Knitting Course is POSTPONED!!!

Dear Friends!

We have to notify that Haapsalu Shawl Knitting Course in 21rst to 27th of August in Estonia is postponed. Hopefully we'll manage it in summer 2011. We will let you know when plans are clear.

We thank all of you for your great interest about this course. At the moment we both have hard time in our personal life and we have to pay all our attention to families. We don’t leave our passion for handycraft and knitting, but we have to keep it in the background for a little while.

We are very interested in organizing Haapsalu shawl knitting course, because we are very proud of Estonian knitting traditions and want to share it with you. We keep all the contacts we received from you and inform you about our future plans as soon as possible.

With best regards,
Liina and Kadri

Haapsalu Shawl knitting course II

The introductory blog post you will find here: knitting course I

The schedule of the upcoming trip is as follows:

Please plan your arrival to Tallinn on the 21rst or 22nd of August and we will provide you recommendations for hotels and choosing your traffic vehicles when you give your name up for the trip. Also, we would like to know if there are some special requests or food preferations from your side. Feel free to let us know! It is highly important, so we could ensure you the best knitting trip without worries and inconveniences.
On the 22nd of August we will meet in Tallinn and drive to Haapsalu together – we might say to the shawl capital of Estonia. On this very day takes place the shawl knitting competition and other events of the Annual White Lady’s Festival. We will arrange a visit to the museum’s room that is dedicated to shawls and offer you the possibility to buy the English version of the book Haapsalu Shawl.

The first day will end in the Altmõisa Guesthouse, which will be an utterly peaceful place even for a local spirit. Delicious food and peaceful rest will be guaranteed. It’s not at all a long trip to the nearest beach or to the bird observing park and those who still have the courage, can take the bicycle there. The evening is planned to end with a common dinner and getting to know each other.

We will start the 23rd of August in Haapsalu by letting a guide to show us the Episcopal Castle, old city hall, Czar Peter I Memorial Museum and the wonderful house of Ilon Wikland. You do know the fictional children book’s characters of Astrid Lindgren and Ilon Wikland? Exactly this kind of a miraculous fairytale world we are going to take you! A true visit to Haapsalu would be worth nothing without seeing the beach and promenade in the end of the city. We can only hope that the weather would be on our side, so we could have an unforgettable walk there.

By the end of the day we will head out towards Pärnu, where we are expected to spend the rest of the days in the Green Luxury Mansion. Peaceful place, a picturesque creek flowing next to the house and large handcraft room – all reserved just for you. The Green Luxury Mansion is been called the first handcraft hotel of Estonia. If there’s time and will, then we could continue the trip with an introduction visit to Pärnu. Scenic resort, pure sand beach and Gild of Mary Magdalena with the various handcraft shops await us.

On the 24th of August Aime Edasi and Siiri Reimann will arrive to the Green Luxury Mansion to join us. Together they will provide knowledge of traditional Haapsalu shawl knitting technique and wisdom. The craftsman will be there on the 26th as well, when we can continue with the workshop. In all of the evenings, we have planned common non-official workshops, where I or someone else with the knowledge will also join to give guidance in experiencing knitting a unique shawl. During these days shall everyone finish a mini sized Haapsalu Shawl according to the Shawl knitting mandatory rules. Starting and finishing in the traditional way, nupps and other wisdom knitted inside the shawl.

On the 25th we hope to take you to the farmstead in the county of Pärnu, where you can witness the true country style of living. This particular farm holds a great value to the handcraft lovers – we will see how the sheep is raised and how the yarn is been made out of their wool. The process from wool to yarn will be demonstrated to you firsthand. In addition, we hope to offer you true Estonian food straight from the local kitchen.

We will be visited by Juulike on the 27th of August. From the pots and vessels of this vivid young lady, we can find the most odd and interesting herbal mixtures and concentrates. With these mixtures she dyes the yarn. There you can have a try to dye the yarn yourself and also buy some if you like. Exciting, isn’t it?

On the last day of the trip we will tie together what ever loose ends we might have from the knowledge of knitting a true Haapsalu shawl. And by that day, everyone should have their sample shawl ready. The trip will end with a common good-by-lunch and we will send off the participants to Tallinn if they wish to.

All the days of the trip will the land lady of the Green Luxury Mansion take care of the meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) or provide you with vouchers in case you would like to try a meal somewhere else. Pärnu is only few kilometers from where we stay and you will always have a chance to stop by there.

At the moment we are having discussions with a master who knows the history of the laces and knows how to maintain the good condition of it. If the outcome is successful, then you will have a fun and educating course in addition. As a surprise, we have planned an outdoor event with Estonian music and local food – you are welcome to a village festivity!

The cost of the whole knitting trip is 8000EEK, which includes accommodation, transport on our trips among Estonia and daily meals. Also, the participation on the program that I have described during this letter (there could be a slight change of plans, but of course we will inform before the registration if some should occur). Among other things, you will be around tons of fresh air, could have the opportunity to pick wild berries in the nature, walk barefoot on the morning wet grass and the ultimate pleasure of all – knit without disturbance in a friendly environment until the morning hours if you will. PS! For all the participants we will provide a starting kit with decent needles and traditionally fine Haapsalu shawl yarn. And who still hasn’t got the Haapsalu Shawl  book in her/his possession; I can assure you they will have it by the end of this trip.

I will remind you again that you shall feel free to ask any questions you might have! Please send the questions and your wish to participate to this address info@haarber.ee. Although my partner Kadri was ill recently, I hope you don’t have to wait for an answer for too long. We wish to plan a trip for your, that will stay in your hearts for a long time!

Haapsalu Shawl- knitting course!!!

Dear English-speaking knitting friends,

As I had mentioned some time ago that it will be worth checking my blog every now and then; well, today is the day when I can announce excellent news – in August of 2010 we will arrange a knitting course of Haapsalu Shawl in collaboration with Kadri (The landlady of Green Luxury Mansion). The upcoming period will also be an adventurous vacation trip. The arranged visit will last all together a week and into the program we have gathered all kind of interesting activities for you.
So what do we have to offer?
For sightseeing we are blessed with pure Estonian nature, for accommodation we are able to offer cosy and peaceful guesthouses (Altmõisa, Green Luxury Mansion), for town sightseeing The Medieval City of Tallinn and last but not least – the marvellous handcraft shop Karnaluks.
The most significant news to you – we will arrange a 2-day Haapsalu Shawl knitting course, which will be led by two familiar persons to you – the authors of book “Haapsalu Shawl ” and diligent handcraft guru’s Aime Edasi and Siiri Reimann. Could there be a better opportunity of learning true Estonian handcraft from the masters as such? I would not dare to think so…

During the first days of the trip will also take place the famous and traditional Haapsalu Shawl knitting competition and The Annual Haapsalu Shawl Day. Both of those events are part of The Haapsalu White Lady’s Cultural Week (photos  from Arvo Tarmula, 2007)
In addition to these treats, you will have the opportunity to see how Estonian sheep is being raised, how yarn is made from the wool  in the local mill and finally how the yarn is being dyed with plants into tens of splendid colours. All these activities characterise just the overall spirit of the trip. More over, in addition to Aime’s and Siiri’s workshops are planned other jaunts and surprises.

Certainly I am going to introduce the whole program more thoroughly quite soon. Today’s mailing was just a greeting to you and announcement to all interested parties because we have to take into account limited number of participants. Therefore, it would be worth giving your name up quickly. The visit is taking place on 22st to 29th of August 2010.

Additional information will be distributed through this blog in the near future, also provided by Ravelry and through Kadri’s e-mail if needed.

We welcome You to Estonia, to knit the magnificent Haapsalu Shawl.
